Once upon a time, there was a boy named Charlie who had an unyielding passion for bikes and cycling. From the moment he could pedal, he was hooked, spending every spare moment tinkering with his beloved bikes. His first “proper” bike was a Raleigh Grifter, before he got his first BMX as a teenager. As he grew older, his fascination with the intricate mechanics of bikes only deepened - the BMX was frequently updated, often resprayed a different colour, and seldom the same bike from one month to the next.

After years of riding, repairing, and obsessing over bikes, Charlie noticed that high-quality bicycle chain lubricants were hard to find. His day-job as an IT specialist took him all around the world and through many industries including, crucially, three years working in Formula 1.

He learned from the world’s best mechanics that the key to smooth, efficient machinery lay in the proper care and maintenance of the moving parts - and specifically lubrication. Drawing from his extensive knowledge and experience, Charlie decided to embark on a new adventure: founding his own company dedicated to creating the best bicycle chain lubricants in the world.

And so, Slip Systems was born. With a small team of like-minded enthusiasts, Charlie set out to develop lubricant formulas that would revolutionise the way cyclists used and maintained their chains. Hours were spent testing different formulations, meticulously testing different blends of oils and additives until they achieved the perfect balance of lubrication, durability, and cleanliness. Many favours were called in from back in those F1 days. Guessing is one thing. Knowing is quite another.

Word quickly spread among the South of England cycling community about Slip Systems' superior products. Cyclists praised Slip Wax for its ability to withstand even the toughest conditions, from muddy mountain trails to long-distance road rides. Mountain Bikers and everyday cyclists loved High Performance Chain Lube for its ease of application and non-sticky formula. As local demand gathered pace, Slip Systems expanded its product line to include a degreaser designed with the same commitment to quality and innovation. It took twelve attempts to get the balance absolutely right - hence why we called it Formulation 12 (only slightly inspired by how WD40 got its name!).

But for Charlie, Slip Systems is more than just a business—it is a labour of love, a culmination of his lifelong passion for bikes. He bugged and annoyed his cyclist friends to provide constant feedback. He waxed more than 100 chains for free, just to gather data on its performance.

This text message one Sunday morning proved that he is heading in the right direction “Won the bunch sprint in my crit race today, but I had a fast sprint on limited watts - must be the Slip Wax.”

Slip Systems exists to do one thing well: make your bike move better. That’s it.
